The symptoms had started as dermographia – it would go away I was told; muscle and joint pain – poor conditioning I was told; brain fog – bad diet and hormones I was told; horrific vertigo – result of previous concussion I was told. Eyes crossing and not uncrossing – the doctor didn’t know why. 6 to 7 bouts of pneumonia and/or bronchitis a year – teaching in elementary school I was told. Decreasing ability to eat anything other than protein and veggies and fruits – doctor didn’t know why. Terrible fatigue – not enough exercise I was told. My options of what to try to get better were running out.
I felt horrible. If this was to be my life, what was the point of going on? If this was to be my life, I could not see the future as being somewhere I wanted to go. I kept trying and trying and my body was only getting worse. What in the world was happening to me??
And my poor family – I was always sick. My life had become so limited in what I could do anymore. It was a struggle to do my job every day. I would wrap my legs around my piano bench to keep my balance during my classes. I would feel light headed. I had no energy. No energy for friends or outside activities.
Then I found Dr. Eric Wood.
Upon consulting with Dr. Eric Wood in 2012, one of the questions he asked was, “Have you ever been bitten by a tick?” I said yes, that in 2006, I went out to Washington to sing at a nephew’s wedding, and the morning of the wedding, I found an engorged tick on my back while showering. Not knowing it was there, I had scratched my itchy back, felt something and for a brief moment saw the tick as it slid down the drain. I didn’t think much about it, but by the time I got back to Minnesota, the bite was itching and oozing. I went to the doctor and got on a course of doxycycline for two weeks. I did the followup appointment with blood test three weeks later, and the doctor told me “no Lymes”. I went on with my life. But it wasn’t my life anymore. I told Dr. Wood my whole story.
I was able to arrange testing from IGenex, I got my blood drawn and sent it in . . . the results were POSITIVE. I had chronic Lyme disease!
I was stunned, frightened, angry and relieved all at the same time. Stunned because I thought I had done what I needed to do six years previous. Frightened because I knew what Lyme disease was and the possibility of being cured was very slim. Angry because none of the doctors had ever asked me about a tick bite, nor saw that my symptoms might be Lyme-related. Relieved to finally know. It was an incredibly emotional time.
Dr. Wood explained the course we would follow. Since I am allergic to so many antibiotics anyway, I was glad to find a naturopathic course of treatment. The first step was to build up my immune system with very specific supplements, and to eliminate any toxins that the lyme bugs produced so that when we started killing them I would be able to tolerate the treatment much more effectively. The second course involved taking potent Lyme killing antibacterial supplements, including a powerful form of allicin, as well as supplements to increase circulation and support elimination, binders to rid the body of the lyme toxins, probiotics for my gut and other kinds of immune boosters. Because the allicin makes the body smell like a garlic factory, Dr. Wood also had me take chlorophyll and charcoal to help with that. After a few days of started the allicin protocol, I had a Herxheimer reaction – it was working!! Dr. Wood explained that while I felt even worse, that was a good thing for it meant the bacteria was being killed off. He gave me suggestions to help me through the Herx.
After a month or so, I noticed that some of my symptoms seemed to ease a bit. After six months, many were quite a bit better. After a year, a lot more improvement. I was getting better! My energy was coming back and the horrible symptoms were going away.
I have now been on a maintenance program for about a year now with supplements to treat residual after effects and damage from the toxins the bugs produce. I am able to eat almost anything, the eye crossing episodes are no more, my vertigo is so much better, muscle and joint pain has decreased, sleep is better, my immune system is better – I only had two episodes of bronchitis during the last school year! Dr. Wood continues to monitor my progress and is very encouraging and supportive.
And the best part? Dr. Wood wanted to find out if the Lyme bacteria were gone . . . so I had the blood work done two weeks ago. I AM CLEAR OF LYME DISEASE!!!!!!!!!!! It was like I was reborn! After going through so much the past 8 years, I could finally move on with my life! There were so many things to look forward to in the future now. WE BEAT IT!!!
I thank my lucky stars every day for Dr. Eric Wood. Without his skill, knowledge, expertise and compassion, I never would have made it to this point. THANK YOU, DR. ERIC J. WOOD. You have given me back my life.
A most grateful client,
